Masters of Barricades makes a mark in a few surprising places.
As the region's largest privately owned traffic control business, it's no surprise to see Masters of Barricades manage some of the most visible events in Las Vegas and the most prominent construction jobs in Southern Nevada. But what might surprise some is that MOB Traffic scales in both directions.
As long as Masters of Barricades has rental equipment available, the team will rent out barricades that meet specialized needs. Sometimes, this may include pedestrian rail for small-scale casino resort events, a dozen Type II barricades to a plumbing company, or light towers for schools in the area.
"Not every company can come up with these kinds of specialized rentals," explains Lindsay Kullman, assistant general manager at MOB Traffic. "But we try to accommodate the smallest events and most specialized needs because nobody else in town will do it. It's part of being a good neighbor."

MOB Traffic has rented equipment and provides parking and flagging services for every type of gathering imaginable. Rentals have ranged from a few 42" delineators to ADA pedestrian barricades that create a temporary pedestrian walkway to keep crowds moving in an orderly and safe fashion. MOB Traffic also has an ADA-compliant boardwalk ramp platform and handrail system that negates deploying a risky cold patch.
"The first thing we try to establish is what are they trying to do," says Kullman. "And then we develop a plan based on those needs — whether it's a question of pedestrian management or traffic control and whether it's on private property or a public street."
For example, MOB Traffic has served as a business partner with Central Church, providing services and rentals at cost, below cost, or dramatically reduced rates depending on the events. Sometimes, it donates traffic control equipment (42" delineators, variable message boards, and a pedestrian rail) for ongoing food pantries and holiday events like the Hope for the City.
Conversely, Masters of Barricades also pulls out all the stops for one of the most significant holiday events of the year — the Las Vegas Great Santa Run hosted by the Las Vegas Running Company in support of Opportunity Village. Opportunity Village has been dedicated to helping people with disabilities find the best version of themselves since 1954. It's especially visible during the holidays for its amazing Magical Forest.
The Magical Forest is a cherished tradition in Southern Nevada, presenting a winter wonderland with over a million sparkling lights, exciting rides, great food, and endless holiday cheer. It's also one of the largest fundraising efforts of the year to support Opportunity Village.

"While these holiday events represent bigger jobs, sometimes rentals can mean meeting the needs of a holiday block party or directionals at a local school," Kullman said. “We've supported all kinds of needs and often spend time educating the public on what kinds of permits they will need if they want to close down street access for any length of time."
Part of MOB Traffic's ability to cater to small-scale needs grew out of servicing the film industry. The company has been listed in the Nevada Production Directory for decades, which required its team to become familiar with the often last-minute and changing needs of a film production company.
"When you are entrusted to provide traffic control in some of our state's most scenic, picturesque, and quirky locations, scaling service becomes second nature," Kullman said. "We've helped manage traffic and pedestrian traffic for some of the area's most iconic movies — with scenes on the Strip, in remote areas, and on school campuses."
But according to Kullman, scaling traffic control and pedestrian management service is more than a matter of size. It's also a matter of scope.
"We have a few customers like Western States Contracting that have their own planning department," says Kullman. "So we're happy to deliver rentals to their job sites without needing a work plan beyond a cursory review for liability and compliance reasons. For most customers like this, we might do set up and tear downs but aren't managing every aspect of the job. Conversely, some customers call us specifically to assist with parking needs or even valet services."
For example, a few customers like NASCAR have been known to secure MOB Traffic drivers and trucks to set out their cones and message boards. Kullman says it's just a matter of meeting the customer's needs instead of asking them to bend to their needs.
"Will there be a time when we have to turn down a request because every delineator has been rented out or every driver maxed out on overtime, especially around a major event like the Rock' n' Roll Running Series? Maybe," she said. But it hasn't happened yet.”
